Frequently Asked Questions
SCUBA DIVING FAQ's
Is there one agency that is better than others?
Every dive training agency would like to have you believe that they are " the best ". They would
love for you to wear t-shirts with their name on it advertising their "brand" of training. The truth is
other than some terminology and a few semantics, most dive training agencies are very similar
and all of the major training agencies are governed by one set of standards that dictate the
basic curriculum and general skills that must be completed in order to earn a certification. You
just want to dive! Let the professionals at Adventure Diving explain the three step certification
process for you.
Why should I use NITROX?
NITROX diving gas reduces the amount of Nitrogen that is absorbed in your body over the
duration of a dive. If used properly, it can significantly reduce the possibility of some gas
related injuries while diving. Most divers that use NITROX regularly also report staying warmer
and are generally less fatigued after multiple dives. We could write a small book here on the
benefits and perceptions of diving NITROX. If you have any interest or questions about NITROX
diving please ask one of our instructors .
Can I take specialty and advanced courses if my open water certification isn't SDI?
Yes. Divers can take SDI specialty courses even if your Open Water Certification is
with another dive training agency. Almost all courses transfer straight across certification
agencies!
Can I cross my existing certification over to SDI?
Yes. Divers holding a certification from another dive training agency may crossover to SDI
or may use their existing certification to continue on in their training. There are some restrictions
on Dive Masters, Assistant Instructors, Instructors, and technical courses. Ask an instructor
for information if you are interested in crossing over. To get a new card, we need a copy of
your current card, a copy of your last dive, and a completed SDI card application. The cost is
$25.00 plus tax. There is no photo required which helps to keep you diving with lower cost since
we should travel with several forms of photo ID anyway.
Why should I buy equipment from Adventure Diving?
Adventure Diving stocks and sells only high quality scuba diving equipment that meets or
exceeds most international standards. Before you buy, bring signed written proof of your quote
and give us a chance to meet or beat that price with equal or better equipment! We have everyday
low prices on equipment that are in line with most retail dive centers and the internet! Adventure
Diving uses bulk purchasing to provide better pricing. We want you to feel great about your
equipment purchase knowing that you got the best equipment at a great price. Our certified
technicians set up your equipment to the manufacturer's specifications, check for life support
recalls, and service your equipment annually to keep you where you want to be! If you don't see
something you want, just ask an instructor and we can probably get it for you from a cooperative
dive facility that works with us yet carries a different manufacturers equipment!
Why not just rent equipment?
Renting equipment can be a great idea if your frequency of diving will be low.
Adventure Diving has 40 sets of high quality, well maintained, diving equipment with air / nitrox
dive computers and weight integrated buoyancy control devices for people who would rather
rent than purchase equipment. Essentially, it comes down to costs. If you rent enough times,
you could eventually pay for most of your equipment and the annual service without the equipment
to show for your expense. If you dive often, it's definitely worth the cost to purchase equipment.
People who buy gear will participate in a sport more, are generally safer, and derive more
enjoyment than those who have to use different equipment each time.
